New Delhi: Robert Vadra land deal, Telangana and Kishtwar violence ensured that both Houses of Parliament could not transact much business on Tuesday with MPs shouting slogans and disrupting the proceedings.
With the Opposition particularly the BJP adamant to put the Congress on the mat over the alleged irregularities committed by Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra in his land deals in Haryana, the Lok Sabha as well as the Rajya Sabha saw heated exchanges between the rival camps.
Amidst uproar over the land deals, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha demanded an SIT probe into Vadra land deals. Taking a jibe over the alleged involvement of the UPA chief's son-in-law in the land deals, Sinha said that Vadra had a 'unique' business model of investment which included 'making money without any investment and suggested that he should open a 'Vadra school of management'.
Sinha got the support of other BJP MPs as well who demanded a discussion over the issue in both the Houses of Parliament. Unable to hide his disappointment over the stalling of the House by the MPs, Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari wondered whether members wish the House to become a 'federation of anarchists' which further drew wrath from the opposition MPs. Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley demanded the Chair to withdraw the remark.
Congress, which issued a gag order over speaking on the land deal issue, was quick to come to Vadra's rescue. Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari asked the BJP to refrain from 'trying every trick' to stall the proceedings of Parliament. He clarified the government's stand over issue and said that an individual cannot be discussed in Parliament.
While the issue of land deals was raised in Parliament, the SP and the BSP came out in the support of the Congress and said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi could be held responsible for the alleged wrong doings of her son-in-law. SP alleged the BJP of politicising the issue and both the SP and the BSP said that they were against Sonia Gandhi being dragged into the issue.
The Houses also witnessed uproar over the issue of violence in Kishtwar which has affected Jammu and Kashmir in the past few days. Concerns were raised with regard to the steps that have been taken to prevent violence in the district. Telangana and solar scam in Kerala were also raised in Parliament.
