New Delhi: Amidst a disastrous electoral performance this year, the Congress will be celebrating its 130th Foundation Day on Sunday. The celebrations will be held at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in the national capital. Top party leadership including Congress President Sonia Gandhi will preside over the function.
The Congress fared poorly at the polls as it managed to win a total of 44 Lok Sabha seats in the 543-member member House. It was also reduced to almost a regional party status in the Lok Sabha polls.
Adding to party's disappointment were the Assembly elections as the party performed badly in the Maharastra, Harayana, Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand assembly elections. The Congress ruled these states but now stands at a distant third in the states.
The Narendra Modi wave has hit the party badly and is now trying hard to regain the foothold. With support for the party diminishing, the Congress is re-thinking it's organisational pull and connect with masses.
