Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu was on Thursday made the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha for the ongoing Budget session of Parliament. He replaced Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who would be busy with the upcoming Assembly election in the state for the next two months.
With Deputy Leader of Opposition Gaurav Gogoi also worked up with election in Assam, Bittu (45) will be in charge of the party’s affairs in the lower House of Parliament.
Grandson of late Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, Bittu became the Congress whip in the Lok Sabha in August. He was first elected to Parliament in 2009 from Anandpur Sahib and then twice from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019.
Bittu, who has been at the forefront of the farmers’ protest that is taking place along the borders of Delhi, was attacked during a demonstration at the Singhu border.
