Congress demands judicial enquiry in alleged Murthal rape case

New Delhi: The alleged rape incident in Murthal during Jat quota stir is resonating in Parliament as well. Congress MP Kumari Selja on Tuesday raised the matter in Rajya Sabha and has demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter.

This even as a three-member Haryana Poilce Team is probing the allegations.

Kumari Selja said, "The law and order situation in Haryana has deteriorated. Case of alleged rapes in Murthal has shocked entire nation. We are convinced that the police will not allow a fair enquiry and hence we demand a judicial enquiry under the High Court in this matter."

On Monday, Haryana Police had filed its status report on the alleged rapes at Murthal in Sonipat district during the Jat agitation, saying no such incident took place. The status report was filed before a division bench of Justices SK Mittal and HS Sidhu.

The status report filed by police "denied the charges of molestation and gangrape during the intervening night of February 22/23 at Murthal in Sonipat district".

The division bench adjourned the case to March 14. The High Court had taken suo motu note of the matter after a report in a local daily on the alleged rapes.
