Bihar will continue to demand special status: Nitish
Mamata Banerjee had also sought a financial package from the Centre after coming to power in May 2011 which was yet to arrive.

Kolkata: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday reiterated his demand for granting special status to the state, saying other financially backward states also had "valid right" to seek additional aid from the Centre. "Bihar will continue to ask the Centre to grant special status," Kumar told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Kolkata.

Like Bihar, there were other financially backward states which also had the valid right to seek additional aid from the Centre, he said. "The other states might argue with the Centre on the lines which Bihar had done while seeking special status," Kumar said.

He said that the backward states have problems which were state-specific. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also sought a financial package from the Centre after coming to power in May 2011 which was yet to arrive.

Kumar, who heads the Bihar government as leader of the NDA-constituent JD(U), has linked his party's support for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls with special status.
