Bihar political crisis: BJP walks out from all-party meeting called by state Speaker
The Bihar Assembly is scheduled to meet on February 20 for Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi to prove his majority.

Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday boycotted an all-party meeting called by the state Speaker Uday Narain Choudhary ahead of the Assembly session.

The Bihar Assembly is scheduled to meet on February 20 for Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi to prove his majority.

Meanwhile, the Patna High Court will on Wednesday decide on a petition filed by the BJP which has challenged the Speaker's decision to recognise the Janata Dal (United) camp led by Nitish Kumar as the principal opposition.

On Monday, Manjhi had failed to attend the all-party meeting called by the Assembly Speaker while the opposition BJP boycotted it.

The Patna High Court restrained the Manjhi government on Monday from taking any policy decisions. Manjhi can only work on routine matters till his majority is proved on the floor of the house, it said.

The all-party meeting was called to discuss the political crisis in the state and to look into the demand of the ruling JDU that they be recognised as the main opposition after Manjhi refused to step down and was expelled from the party while former chief minister Nitish Kumar, who was elected legislature party leader, was not invited to form the government.
