Gogoi who had offered to resign the day the Lok Sabha elections were out has reached New Delhi to meet Sonia.

"I take the moral responsibility for the congress party's bad performance in the state," said Gogoi on Wednesday. "Will offer my resignation to Sonia Gandhi tomorrow.. have sought an appointment from Sonia Gandhi," he added.

As many as 45 of the 78 Congress MLAs, considered to be from the camp opposing Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's leadership, on Wednesday wrote to Sonia Gandhi demanding change in leadership.

Gogoi refused to comment on the dissidence within his own Cabinet against him.

The Congress which had won 7 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam in 2009 general elections was reduced to just three seats this time around. Meanwhile, the BJP crushed Congress to register a thumping victory in the state by winning 7 LS seats.
