Pranab asks partymen to strengthen organisation

WBPCC president Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday asked partymen to strengthen the party organisation while keeping up the alliance with the Trinamool Congress and take the UPA Government's programme to the masses.

Mukherjee, the Union Finance minister, who chaired a meeting participated by PCC working presidents, general secretaries and the Congress legislature party leaders, advised them to set up booth level committees and strengthen party organisations, while keeping up the alliance with the Trinamool Congress, CLP leader Manas Bhunia said.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, The TMC-Cong alliance captured 26 out of total 42 seats in the state which is traditionally considered to be a Left bastion.

Mukherjee also advised partymen to take up welfare programmes of the UPA government to the masses, he said.

The first high-level meeting of the WBPCC after the elections discussed the political situation in the state, cyclone Aila and organisational matters.

The party also decided to organise a two-day brainstorming session in August for which an approach paper would be prepared, Bhunia said.

He said it was also decided that a PCC delegation comprising party MLAs, MPs, general secretaries and organisation chiefs would meet Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi after June 10 to apprise him of deteriorating law and order in the state after the Lok Sabha poll.
