‘Whatwillhappen’ is one of the hashtags on startup CEO Suchana Seth’s last Instagram post on October 12, written as a caption beneath the photo of a child in front of an aquarium. The 39-year-old woman allegedly killed her four-year-old son at a service apartment in Goa and stuffed his body in a suitcase while trying to escape in a taxi on January 8. The post is now flooded with comments and, according to some, the child is likely Seth’s son while she herself has not mentioned it in the caption. Two Instagram users have claimed that they were the woman’s neighbours for some time and found her to be a “loving mother” and extremely concerned over her child’s health issues as he had breathing trouble.
One of the users wrote that the child was a “well mannered cutest baby” and said Seth was “taking care of that baby so well”. The user claimed to have met the startup CEO three months ago and said she remembered both as they were “the sweetest”.
Another user claimed that they were Seth’s neighbour for six months and felt that Seth could “never even slap her son”. They have used a name for the child, saying his mother was always worried about his health and well-being.
The user further said the news of Seth killing her own child is “stranger than fiction”, and that they even shared food with each other as both were Bengalis. The comment read that Seth was a “bookworm” and had her own library.
Other hashtags in Seth’s last post include ‘findinglosing’, ‘lifeisbeautiful’, ‘holiday’, ‘magicofchildhood’ among others. The single mother and child were living in a residential complex on Bengaluru’s Rachanahalli Road for some time until a few months ago.
A report published by Hindustan Times said Seth’s neighbours described her as a quiet person while her son loved to play with dogs.
The case so far
Police sources said a letter written using an eyeliner has been recovered from the red suitcase, in which Seth stuffed her child’s body. They said the contents of the letter pertain to the custodial battle over the child.
On Friday (January 12), Goa police will take Seth to the service apartment where she had stayed to recreate the crime scene. A senior official said this is required as part of the investigation into the case. Seth had checked into this apartment at Goa’s Candolim on January 6 and stayed there till January 8.
Seth, who was arrested from Chitradurga in Karnataka, has told interrogators about her troubled marriage. She is in police custody for six days, but officials are yet to find the motive behind the murder.
“This is part of the investigation. She is currently in police custody and we are interrogating her in connection with the case,” the official said.
The post-mortem has revealed the four-year-old was smothered to death either with a piece of cloth or a pillow. Police said two empty bottles of a cough syrup were found in the apartment where the CEO killed her minor son, indicating she may have given a heavy dose of the medicine to him in signs of a premeditated murder. She was subjected to psychological test to assess her mental state and help find the motive for the gruesome crime.
The child’s body was cremated in Bengaluru on Wednesday (January 10) by his father Venkat Raman.
