Amid defying call from investors to bring back Sam Altman as the CEO of OpenAI, the company’s board of directors has appointed Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear for the job, according to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter.
A computer scientist, Shear was the CEO of Amazon’s game-streaming site Twitch, where he resigned last year.
According to the Bloomberg report citing one of the people, Emmett Shear won over directors as he appeared to recognise the existential threats that AI presented.
OpenAI’s board on Friday sacked Sam Altman as the company’s CEO and director.
In a statement, the company said, “Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”
