Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has offered a worrying weather update from Mumbai as the Indian team arrived in the ‘City of Dreams’ ahead of their ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka.

India have won all six of their World Cup games and the Men in Blue will face Sri Lanka on Thursday. The Men in Blue landed in Mumbai on Monday as Rohit shared a snap on his Instagram from the light.

However, the view from the flight wasn’t too pretty as Rohit seemed worried about the heavy smog cover all over the city.

“Mumbai, yeh kya ho gaya (Mumbai, what’s happened)?” wrote Rohit on his Instagram story as he clicked a picture of the aerial view from over the city.

The weather in Mumbai has been a huge concern for the last couple of weeks. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city on Tuesday was 161 which stands in moderate category, as per CPCB.

There are many parts of the Mumbai suburbs where the AQI has been much worse, such as Bandra Kurla Complex had 257 AQI. On Monday, the AQI for the city stood at 143, preceded by 152 on Sunday.

For the past couple of weeks, many experts have been worried about the pollution in Mumbai which has affected the weather severely.

For the unversed, the AQI ratings below 50 is considered good, while below 100 is satisfactory. 101-200 is considered moderate, while above 200 to 300 falls in the poor category.

Furthermore, Indian captain Rohit isn’t the only cricketer who has offered his reservations about Mumbai’s weather. Earlier, England cricketer Joe Root also found the conditions challenging to play in the city.

“I’ve not played in anything like that before. I’ve obviously played in hotter conditions, and probably more humid conditions. But it just felt like you couldn’t get your breath. It was like you were eating the air. It was unique,” Root had stated.

The Indian team will nonetheless be looking to continue their winning run in the World Cup and hope that the weather doesn’t play spoilsport against Sri Lanka. A win over the Asia Cup 2023 finalists will help the Indian team officially confirm their place in the semifinals.
