IND vs AUS: Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur Rested from 3rd ODI in Rajkot
Both Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur will now join the India squad for the warm-up fixtures ahead of 2023 ODI World Cup.

The Indian team has continued to rotate players in the ongoing three-match series against Australia at home with Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur latest to be rested as part of the management’s efforts to keep all players fresh ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup next month.

Both Gill and Shardul were part of the first two ODIs played against Austrlia but haven’t travelled with the team to Rajkot for the final match as per a report in the Indian Express.

The duo will now be joining the rest of India’s world cup squad in Guwahati where they are scheduled to play their first warm-up game ahead of the marquee event.

Gill scored 74 in the series opener in Mohali and then struck a sublime ton in Indore to give India an unassailable 2-0 in the three-match series. However, the two matches have been forgettable for Shardul who went wicketless and proved quite expensive as well.

Gill will be pivotal to India’s hopes at the world cup considering the stunning form he has been in ODIs this year.

The 24-year-old is currently the leading run-getter in the format in 2023 having scored 1230 runs from 20 innings. He has peeled off five centuries as well.

The third ODI though will see the return of several seniors who were rested from the first two games.

Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav will be making their return.

Jasprit Bumrah played the first match of the series but didn’t join the Indian team in Indore with the BCCI giving the fast bowler a short break to be with his family. He’s also expected to be back for the final fixture to be played on Wednesday.

India play their first warmup game of world cup against England on September 30 followed by the Netherlands on October 3 in Thiruvananthapuram.

India will then kickstart their campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8.
