India
Rohit Sharma:
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has led from the front as he has produced attacking knocks opening the batting for the men in blue. He has amassed 550 runs in the tournament, the second time he has notched up over 500 runs at a WC.
He has notched up a ton and three half-centuries at the home event and has also made four forty-plus scores in the campaign.
He has taken on the opposition bowling attack early on in the powerplay and will look to set things right against Australia after his uninspiring innings in the team’s tournament opener against the Aussies.
Virat Kohli:
The leading run scorer at the ongoing World Cup, Virat Kohli, has amassed an astounding 711 runs in the campaign as he became the first batsman in the history of the World Cup to breach the 700-run mark in a single edition of the ICC showpiece.
He brought up a record-breaking 50th ODI ton against New Zealand in the semifinal of the event surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record in the 50-over format of the game.
Kohli has smashed three tons and five half-centuries at the World Cup and will look to further his run tally in the championship encounter to help India get their hands on the trophy.
Mohammed Shami:
The Indian pacer has been incredible at the blue ribbon event as he tops the race for the golden ball with 23 wickets to his name.
He produced statement performances throughout the tournament, but his seven-wicket haul in the semis against the Kiwis was something special as he registered the best-ever figures for an Indian bowler at the World Cup with his 7 for 57 in 9.5 overs.
He also became the fastest bowler to cross the 50 wickets mark at the World Cup with his blinder against New Zealand to secure India’s berth in the summit clash.
Jasprit Bumrah:
One of the finest seamers in the world, Bumrah will look to stamp his authority in the final of the event as the nation rallies behind the pacer’s swing bowling.
The speedster, who was sidelined for over eleven months in the build-up to the World Cup, returned in time to help the men in blue with their pace attack and has been incredible at the spectacle.
The opening bowler has dismissed 18 batsmen in the campaign and stands sixth in the list of top wicket-takers and will look to surge ahead in the table with his finals performance against the team from down under.
KL Rahul:
The wicketkeeper-batsman has been brilliant with the bat and behind the stumps in India’ run to the final of the World Cup as he has amassed 386 runs with the bat.
He was also India’s highest scorer in their opening game of the campaign against Australia with an unbeaten 97-run knock that helped India kick finely start the WC and will look to repeat his feat against the same opponents in the final if he does come to crease with the bat in the summit clash.
Shreyas Iyer:
Iyer has hit a purple patch, coming into the finals on the back of two consecutive centuries. His 105 off 70 deliveries in the semis against the Kiwis broke multiple records and followed an unbeaten 128 knock against the Dutch in India’s final group game.
The Mumbai-born batsman has been solid at No.4 and will seek to bring up his third ton on the trot against Australia in the championship encounter.
Ravindra Jadeja:
The all-rounder is team India’s third-highest wicket-taker after Shami and Bumrah, with 16 dismissals to his name and has also come useful with the bat with a total of 111 runs in the campaign.
An attacking left-hand batsman, a wily spinner and a gun fielder, Jadeja is in many ways a perfect cricketer and his performance in the final could end up deciding the victor of the glittery prize.
Australia
David Warner:
The attacking left-handed batsman has had a World Cup to remember as he has amassed 528 runs in 10 games for the Australians. He joined an elite list of players to have recorded over 500 runs in two World Cups.
He leads the run books for the Aussies and will look to give the World Cup specialists a grand start in the championship battle.
His 41-run knock against the Indians in the side’s opening fixture of the tournament went in vain as India emerged winners, but the southpaw will look to better his performance against the men in blue in the all-important title match.
Pat Cummins:
The Aussie skipper has rallied his troops incredibly well after having lost the two opening games of the campaign to get the team from down under to the finals of the tournament.
He has sent 13 batsmen back to the pavilion in the tournament and will look to add to his wicket count when he picks up the ball against India on Sunday.
He has displayed determination and grit in leading this Australian unit to the cusp of glory as he goes in quest of emulation former Australia captains such as the likes of Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting and Michael Clark.
Adam Zampa:
Australia’s leading source of wickets at the World Cup in India, spinner Zampa has dismissed 22 batsmen in his side’s run to the final and is hot on the tail of Shami in the golden ball rankings.
Zampa went for 53 runs in his 8 overs without taking a wicket against as Austrlai went down to India in their tournament opener and will be seeking to come up with an improved showing as the teams face off aginst each other yet again, this time with the trophy at stake.
Steve Smith:
Smith might not feature at the top of the run-scorers list in the race for the golden bat at the 2023 edition, but counting out the maverick batsman could prove costly for the home side.
He has 298 runs to his name at the ICC event at a strike rate of 81.87 but could prove to be the difference maker if it turns out to be his day.
Glenn Maxwell:
The tournament’s highest score of 201 was achieved by the big-hitting Maxwell, who saved the Australian’s campaign with his awe-inspiring innings against Afghanistan to ensure a knockout berth for the five-time champions.
Battling severe cramps during the memorable innings, Maxwell came up big when his side needed it the most and possesses the firepower to take the game away from the opposition when on song.
The Indian bowlers would look to scalp the pinch hitter early as they go in search of their third world title.
Mitchell Marsh:
Marsh has been a brilliant asset to Australia in the team’s charge for a sixth World Cup as he has the second most runs for an Australian in the campaign, after Warner.
His unbeaten 177-run knock against remains the second-highest single-game total at the ICC WC 2023 after Maxwell’s blinder.
Mitchell Starc:
Satrc, who has dismissed 13 batmen in the World Cup 2023, is a proven menace with the ball and showed his capabilities on the biggest stage with his gun performance against the Proteas in the semifinal encounter.
Starch will spearhead the Aussie bowling attack and will look to make early inroads as he would seek to get rid of the dangerous Indian top order to help his side’s chances in the final.
