CBSE to Discontinue Hard Copy of Migration Certificate: How to get it via DigiLocker
This change will be effective from CBSE board exams 2021 and issuing of hard copy will discontinue completely from 2024 exams, the official notice read

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will issue the migration certificates for class 10 and 12 students via DigiLocker – an online platform. While for the current batch the certificate will be provided in hard copy on-demand, the board will discontinue giving hardcopy of migration certificate by 2024.

The hardcopy will be provided only to students who make specific demands for the same. As per the board, the certificates will be made available in DigiLocker as soon as the result is declared. “This is expected to help students seeking admission in the higher education system as they are required to provide the same and also in web verification of documents,” says CBSE.

Students and parents who are not familiar with DigiLocker will have to make an account on the platform. Anyone can do so by following these steps –

Step 1: Visit the official website of DigiLocker at digilocker.gov.in

Step 2: Click on the link reading, ‘Register for DigiLocker’

Step 3: Enter a valid mobile number and click on the ‘Continue’

Step 4: An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number, use that OTP to verify your number

Step 5: Set your username and password to sign up. Keep the username and password safely for subsequent logins

Step 6: Now enter your 12 digit Aadhar number

Step 7: Choose any of the signup options

Step 8: Sign in using your registered user name and password to save your documents in DigiLocker

DigiLocker is an online vault. It provides an account in the cloud to every Aadhaar cardholder to access their important documents or certificates including driving license, vehicle registration, academic certificates in digital format at digilocker.gov.in. Class 10 and class 12 mark sheets are among the most popular documents at DigiLocker with as many as 11,10,48,070 class 10 and 7,99,50,171 class 12 mark sheets available at the platform, as per the official data.

Migration certificate is needed for students who change their board after class 10 or those who complete their schooling after class 12 and need a certification identifying the educational board they have studied from.
