Sandeep Reddy Vanga is clearly upset with the criticism generated against Animal. The director, in a new interview, did not hold back when he targetted film critics for giving Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal negative reviews. He claimed that a certain section of the reviewers have handpicked only a few things from the film that are problematic and are commenting on those aspects instead of talking about the craft of the film. He then made a shocking comment. He asked these critics ‘to go to China’ and offer English tutoring classes.
Speaking with Connect FM Canada, Sandeep said, “All these critics should go to China. You know the most happening thing in China is English tuition. They are good with English so that they could go and tutor there. Other than new English words in their reviews, you don’t find anything else."
He added that the critisim is affecting the film’s box office. Animal has collected over Rs 840 cr. worldwide, as per Bollywood Hungama (at the time of reporting). “Despite giving elaborate explanations (post the release of Kabir Singh), they don’t even try to analyse the film. They talk about only two or three things. After Animal, I realized that it would be there for all my films. It’s alright. The criticism will intensify even more for Spirit and Animal Park," he added.
In another portion of the interview, Sandeep claims there a hatered towards him and not the film. “There is a clear hatred towards the filmmaker rather than the film," he claimed. The director also added that he is not against criticism but he must feel that the critics are honest and not biased. “I can understand when people genuinely feel that I could tone down the violence in my films, but when you attack the intention of the filmmaker it becomes bizarre," he said.
Animal was released earlier this month. Sandeep has confirmed he will return with a sequel, titled Animal Park.
