During the 75th Annual Emmy Awards, the ceremony took a nostalgic turn by reuniting iconic casts’ members from Emmy nominated shows for special presentations. The executive producers decided to honour the rich history of television through these reunions. One particularly thrilling moment was the reunion of the original Grey’s Anatomy cast members, including Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr and Chandra Wilson. This iconic group gathered to present the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Transporting viewers back to the first season of Grey’s, nearly 20 years ago, the cast appeared in a replica hospital room at the awards ceremony. Their reunion culminated by presenting Paul Walter Hauser with the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actor, specifically for his role in Black Bird.
Pompeo started her monologue by reflecting on the show’s humble beginnings in March 2005. Expressing uncertainty about the lasting impact, she acknowledged that creator Shonda Rhimes might not have predicted the show’s legacy and the lifelong friendships it would create. With over 400 episodes and counting, Chambers offered a heartfelt tribute to everyone who has been a part of the Grey’s Anatomy family.
Adding humour into the moment, Katherine Heigl made the audience and co-stars laugh, after she acknowledged the changes over the years, who jokingly referred to her own controversial exit from the series in Season 6. She highlighted that amidst the transformations, one thing has remained constant, the incredible fan base of Grey’s Anatomy.
Chandra Wilson continued, “You stayed with us through plane crashes, super storms, earthquakes, and the global pandemic. As we start our 20th season, we are officially the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history.” While James Pickens Jr concluded saying, “And that would not be possible without all of you, so to all our fans and to all of you, we thank you.”

The Grey’s Anatomy reunion with Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr and Chandra Wilson marked a significant moment as the largest gathering of the original cast in recent years. While Pompeo and Heigl had previously reunited for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Heigl’s meeting with the main cast members was an unexpected delight for fans.
In addition to the Grey’s Anatomy reunion, the 75th Annual Emmy Awards brought together cast members from various iconic TV shows, including The Sopranos, Martin, Cheers, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Weekend Update, All in the Family and Ally McBeal.
