Emma Stone Says She Won't Make Any More Taylor Swift Jokes
Emma Stone earlier faced backlash for making fun of Taylor Swift and now pledges to refrain from poking fun at her friend in the future.

Taylor Swift’s global dominance is undisputed, with her ongoing Eras Tour and a concert movie that shattered box office records in 2023. However, even though she is at the top of the music world, making light-hearted jokes about her isn’t without its risks. Just ask Hollywood star Emma Stone, who found herself in hot water after jokingly referring to Swift as an ‘as***le’ during a backstage media interview at the Golden Globes. Despite the innocent intent behind the comment, Swift’s loyal fanbase, the Swifties, was quick to take offense. Stone, who won the Best Actress award for Poor Things, found herself facing backlash for the joke. In a recent interview with Variety, she vowed to steer clear of any humorous jabs at the singer in the future.

Emma said, “I definitely won’t make a joke like that again, because I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context." She added, “What a dope."

During the press meeting, a reporter from Fox News asked Emma Stone, “Don’t know if you noticed but when you won, Taylor Swift gave you a huge applause. What are your thoughts on her cheering for your win." She jokingly said, “What an as***le, am I right?" Talking more about her bond with the Midnights singer, she added, “No I’ve known her for almost 20 years. I was very happy she was there and she was also nominated tonight which was wonderful and yes, what an as***le."

At the Golden Globes, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie faced tough competition as it was nominated for the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award. However, the award ultimately went to Margot Robbie’s film, Barbie. The ceremony also featured a moment of humour when Jennifer Lawrence, a contender against the Cruella star in the Best Actress category, was shown playfully telling the camera, “If I don’t win, I’m leaving," capturing everyone’s attention. Meanwhile, the category also included other nominees such as Fantasia Barrino for The Color Purple, Natalie Portman for May December, and Alma Poysti for Fallen Leaves.

In June 2023, Emma opened up about her decade-long friendship with Taylor during an interview with Vanity Fair. Although the two have spoken very little about each other in public, the Amazing Spider-Man actress shared that the Anti-Hero singer helped her in obtaining tickets to one of the Eras Tour shows. This came after, Emma found it very difficult to get tickets for such a high-demand event. Further, the actress mentioned that the two have known each other since they were 17 and 18 years old. The Oscar winner described Swift as a wonderful friend.
