Netflix’s series Beef took audiences by surprise during the 2023 TV season with its emotionally charged narrative. The show has garnered numerous awards and widespread acclaim, sparking discussions about a potential second season. Comicbook suggests that Netflix is actively developing a second season of Beef, with scripts for the new season either complete or nearing completion. Production on the new episodes could begin as early as the summer or fall. The report also indicates that several notable actors, including Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny, are being considered to star in the second season of Beef.
While no official offers have been made, it’s rumoured that the second season of Beef will focus on two feuding couples, with Melton and Spaeny considered for one pairing and Gyllenhaal and Hathaway for the other, as per Comicbook.
If these casting choices materialise, it would mark the second time Gyllenhaal and Hathaway have portrayed love interests, following their roles in Brokeback Mountain and Love & Other Drugs.
Beef follows the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers, Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Ali Wong). The series delves into the escalating feud between the two characters, unravelling their lives and relationships in a darkly comedic and poignant manner.
The first season of Beef also featured Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, Patti Yasutake, Maria Bello, Ashley Park, and Ione Skye.
Regarding the potential storyline for season 2, the cast and crew have been tight-lipped, with creator Lee Sung Jin suggesting that the new season could either continue the story of Danny and Amy or explore a completely different narrative.
“I’d love to make more. We initially pitched the show as an anthology series where every season is a new beef with new characters,” Jin told Comicbook. “At the same time, I really love Danny and Amy and George and Paul (Young Mazino) and the world we created. So, I’m really open to it all. Most importantly, I really want to keep working with this crew that I’ve really fallen in love with. But it’s hard for me to say which direction we’ll go without a writers room and any sort of momentum, so I’m really hoping the AMPTP comes to its senses,” he added.
