Akshay Kumar Is 'Very Happy' After SRK's Jawan Minted Rs 1000 Crores: 'Hope We Make Rs 3000 Cr Films...'
Akshay Kumar shared his thoughts on recent successes of Bollywood films like Gadar 2, OMG 2 and especially SRK's Jawan.

Shah Rukh Khan’s recent pan-India release Jawan, with Atlee has set a new benchmark after entering the Rs 1000 crore, within weeks of its release. The film which also stars Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Vijay Sethupathi, Lehar Khan among others, might be slowing down now after 29 days, but that doesn’t take away from the impact that the film created. Akshay Kumar who is awaiting his next release Mission Raniganj, shared his thoughts on all the films that passed with flying colours at the box office.

While speaking with India Today, Akshay Kumar expressed, “I hope the industry gives more and more hits. I was very happy when Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan did such a good business. There are many other films, like Gadar 2, OMG 2, which also did well. So it’s very good for the industry. Our industry went through a very bad patch because of Covid-19 times. Now things are moving and it’s a great thing that ₹1000 crore is a benchmark. Also, I hope that we make ₹2000-3000 crore films like Hollywood, because the kind of cinema, the screenplay, the script that we have they don’t have.”

The actor also went on to add his two cents on the meaning of ‘commercial success’, “Commercial success is important because you have to make other films, but it also depends on what kind of commercial success you will get. Talking about Mission Raniganj (MR), this film is made on a certain budget. I want to call MR a commercial film. It’s not a Jawan or a Rowdy Rathore (Akshat’s 2012 film). It’s not that kind of film. It has a niche audience, but I hope it does good business.”

Talking about the film, it is based on the life of a real-life hero, Jaswant Singh Gill, who raced against time and rescued the miners trapped in the flooded coal mine in Raniganj in November 1989. Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Ajay Kapoor, the film, directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and music by Jjust Music, promises to bring to life the coal mine accident that shook not only the nation but also the world. The relentless dedication of the rescue team, led by Jaswant Singh Gill, hit theaters on October 6th, 2023.
