Sonakshi Sinha married her boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal on June 23 in Mumbai. They also held a reception attended by a galaxy of Bollywood stars. In a recent interview with Galatta India, Zaheer revealed that he initially considered eloping with Sonakshi and getting married abroad before returning to India. However, he had to drop the plan after realising that such a marriage wouldn’t be legally recognised in India. Sonakshi, on the other hand, had always wanted a more close-knit wedding.
Opening up on the wedding, Zaheer said, “I wanted to elope…. just bounce to the country and go somewhere, get married, and come back; but I got to know that wedding is not valid in India… like you can’t go to Las Vegas and get married, it is not allowed.” To this, Sonakshi said, “So that plan was cancelled; and I always wanted a very intimate wedding. And he (Zaheer) is okay as long as his most important people are there, which is our friends and family that were present at the signing.”
Not long back, Sonakshi also shared an anecdote about Zaheer getting ready before she did on the D Day. She wrote on Instagram that since she was ready before him, she stood by the door and looked at Zaheer from afar, who still wasn’t decked up for the big day. Sharing a photo, she wrote in the caption, “Since bride was ready, she went to admire groom from afar who still wasnt. I remember telling @sam_and_ekta who are the geniuses behind capturing all these moments “isnt he supposed to be admiring me like this while i get ready?!?” There was a collective nod from everyone present in the room.”
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal exchanged vows on July 23 after dating for several years. Their intimate wedding, attended by close friends and family, saw their first photos together go viral instantly. Following their wedding, the couple enjoyed a romantic honeymoon, where Sonakshi shared dreamy photos on Instagram.
