Will Sam Raimi Direct Spider-Man 4? Here Is What We Know
Many people are speculating that Sam Raimi might direct the sequel to the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Screenwriter Sam Raimi has opened up about the possibility of directing the upcoming Spider-Man 4 movie. Despite the rumours that suggest Raimi’s return to make a sequel to the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the director said that he has not been approached to work the film. He said, “Well, I haven’t heard about that yet – I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet.”

“I haven’t talked to Tobey ( Maguire) about it, but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures. But, I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don’t know,” he added, as per a report in CBR.

It is interesting to note that in March, actor Thomas Hayden Church, who plays Flint Marko aka Sandman, in the Marvel films and appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, mentioned Raimi’s return on Spider-Man 4. In a conversation with ComicBook.com, Church said, “I think Sam is gonna do another Spider-Man with Tobey (Maguire), and that’s the one that … They had an option for me to do Spiderman 4 when there was going to be a Spider-Man 4. They had an option for me to come back. So if it happens, that would be fantastic.”

Raimi is known for directing the Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007). In 2022, he directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for Marvel Studios. Since this collaboration, Raimi has hinted that he might return to the Spider-Man franchise if the Dr Strange storyline is developed with Spider-Man’s story, as was the case in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Raimi said, “I’ve come to realise after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, and team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”

Back in 2021, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told The New York Times that they are “actively beginning to develop” the story for Spider-Man 4. The next Spider-Man film may see Mayor Fisk as the main antagonist.
