After so much debate and winning a legal battle from CBFC, 'Udta Punjab' was leaked online yesterday by some unidentified people. The leaked copy of the film carries the watermark ‘For Censor’ and is without any cuts. A case has been registered against unknown people by the movie producers.
After losing the case against 'Udta Punjab' and the online leak of the film, CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani came out to clarify his and board's stand on the leak. Nihalani says, "Whenever CBFC screens a film for certification, it's the producers who arrange everything in preview theatre. CBFC never possesses the film at any point. "
Nihalani added that the revised copy of any film is sealed in front of the producers by the CBFC with their signatures. "Udta Punjab came into our possession at around 6:30 pm yesterday with the signature of the lawyers and both production houses. We gave them certificate after sealing the film and as far as I know the pirated film was uploaded online around 1 am."
Nihalani also clarified that the film being circulated online is the one without the cut, thus not the one possessed and sealed by CBFC. Cyber crime branch is schedule to visit CBFC regarding the case filed by the producers. On the probe Niahalini says, "We are law abiding citizens and would help the police to whatever extent possible."
