Om was directed by Upendra and backed by Parvathamma Rajkumar under the banner of Sri Vajreshwari Combines. The film features Shiva Rajkumar and Prema in the main lead. Along with Srishanthi, G. V. Shivanand, and Sadhu Kokila in supporting roles. It also featured real-life gangsters – Bekkina Kannu Rajendra, Tanveer, Korangu Krishna and Jedaralli Krishnappa – portraying the role of gangsters in a small but important portion of the movie.
The film was especially known for its portrayal of Bangalore’s criminal underworld. The movie focuses on Satya, a priest’s son who later becomes a criminal after his love interest frames him for murder.
The film’s music and lyrics are penned by Hamsalekha. B. C. Gowrishankar and Shashikumar handled cinematography and editing, respectively.
According to reports, Om movie has been re-released more than 650 times and has set a record.

As per the reports, the title of the film Om was not initially finalized. However, Shiva Rajkumar had agreed to the script. So, director Real Star Upendra titled the project as Omkaravan initially. Later, when he had full faith that this movie would do something he decided to change the name to Om.
