Months after the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) seized properties worth Rs 97.79 crore belonging to actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra in connection with a bitcoin fraud case, Raj Kundra has made headlines again by purchasing a brand new luxury car. The British luxury sports car brand, Lotus, has delivered a striking green car to Kundra, reportedly worth around Rs 3 crore.
A video shared by Voompla captures the moment Raj Kundra took his new car for a test drive. He was later seen arriving at his Juhu bungalow in the sleek new vehicle. Dressed casually in a grey t-shirt and blue track pants, Kundra stepped out of the car, briefly looked back at the paparazzi, but did not acknowledge them. The video also featured his son, Viaan, who accompanied him during the outing.
This extravagant purchase comes on the heels of serious legal troubles for Kundra and Shetty. In April of this year, the ED attached properties valued at Rs 97.79 crore belonging to the couple under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA). The properties, which include flats in Mumbai and Pune, were seized as part of an investigation into a bitcoin fraud case that dates back to 2017.
The ED alleges that Raj Kundra, along with others, collected massive funds—amounting to Rs 6,600 crore—from the public by promising returns of 10% per month in the form of bitcoins.
Following the property seizure, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra issued a joint statement through their lawyer, expressing their willingness to cooperate with the authorities. “We have complete faith in the Honourable Judiciary,” they stated, adding that they are committed to assisting with the investigation and hopeful for a fair resolution.
