Shah Rukh Khan’s 2007 movie, Om Shanti Om, remains one of the most loved films to date. Among others, Mithun Chakraborty was also a part of the song. However, do you know he caused a stampede on the sets?

In a recent interview, Farah Khan revealed that there was a ‘stampede’ like situation on the sets of Om Shanti Om when Mithun Chakraborty came by to shoot for the title track. She recalled that everyone rushed to take pictures with him and even Shah Rukh Khan was sidelined.

“People went crazy for Mithun da, and even I couldn’t believe it. There was a stampede on the set. Mithun da also came after a long time, so light boys and everybody came on the set. I think he was the president of some association and had done a lot for workers. They were literally giving their phones to Shah Rukh to click their photos with Mithun da,” Farah told Radio Nasha.

Released in November 2007, Om Shanti Om also marked Deepika Padukone’s debut film. The film also starred Shreyas Talpade, Arjun Rampal and Kirron Kher in key roles. It revolved around a junior film artist (played by SRK) who was smitten by a renowned actress named Shantipriya (essayed by Deepika) but was killed as he tried to save his favourite actress. However, he takes rebirth to punish the murderers.

In 2022, to celebrate 15 years of Om Shanti Om, the film was re-released in theatres across 20 cities of the country including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna, Bhopal, and Ahmedabad among others. Reportedly, the idea behind Om Shanti Om’s re-release was from one of Shah Rukh Khan’s fan clubs – SRK Universe.
