Ravi Shastri Calls Amrita Singh 'Girlfriend', Recalls Their 1st Meeting: 'Main Ladkiyo Se...' | Throwback
Amrita Singh and Ravi Shastri's romance was one of the most talked about discussion in the 80s. After they broke up, Amrita married actor Saif Ali Khan in January 1991.

Ravi Shastri and Amrita Singh’s love relationship was not a secret. The two were dating in the 80s and were rumoured to be engaged as well. However, they later parted ways due to unknown reasons. Years after, a throwback video of the former Indian cricketer has surfaced on social media in which he referred to Amrita Singh as his “girlfriend”. He also recalled their first meeting and revealed why it was embarrassing for him.

“When I met my girlfriend for the first time…Amrita Singh. You must have seen her in films. I met her for the first time in a restaurant in Mumbai. I did not say anything for the initial ten minutes. I knew that I was shy with girls but I did not know that I will not even get a chance to speak. She kept talking for ten minutes. This was my most embarrassing moment,” he said.

Amrita Singh and Ravi Shastri’s romance was one of the most talked about discussions in the 80s. After they broke up, Amrita married actor Saif Ali Khan in January 1991. However, they also got divorced in 2004 i.e. after 13 years of their marriage. They have two children – Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.

Last year, Saif Ali Khan’s mother and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore appeared on Koffee With Karan when she opened up about her son’s ugly divorce from Amrita for the first time. “When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not a harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice but I tried. But that’s water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down and they worked it out together,” she said.

“It’s not just staying away, there are so many other things that are involved. It wasn’t a happy time for us because Ibrahim was just three and we were very fond of the children. Especially, Tiger was really fond of Ibrahim and he would say, ‘That’s a good lad.’ He didn’t get that time with him. So we felt doubly deprived to lose Amrita and lose the two kids. So it’s just not him but we also had to adjust to all that,” the veteran actress added.
