Ranvir Shorey Turns 52: Versatile Actor's Career, and Journey in Bigg Boss OTT

Ranvir Shorey is a man of many talents. The actor started his professional journey as a radio jockey. He made his foray into the world of glitz and glam with director Shashilal K Nair’s Ek Chhotisi Love Story. Featured opposite Manisha Koirala, Ranvir caught the eye of the audience and critics with his performance in the romance drama. He went on to star in several small yet crucial roles in films like Jism and Lakshya.

However, he rose to stardom with Dibakar Banerjee’s comedy-drama Khosla Ka Ghosla. As the actor celebrates his 52nd birthday today, August 18, let’s take a look at his top films, upcoming projects, and journey in Bigg Boss OTT 3.

Ranvir Shorey participated in the reality television show Bigg Boss OTT 3 this year. Hosted by Anil Kapoor, the programme premiered on June 21 on Colors TV and JioCinema Premium. The show drew its curtains on August 2, with actress Sana Makbul winning the competition.

However, throughout his tenure in the Bigg Boss house, Ranvir showed immense patience and confidence by completing challenging tasks, dealing with his co-contestants, and navigating tough situations. He emerged as the second runner-up.

During a media press conference, Ranvir Shorey revealed that he decided to participate in Bigg Boss to pay his son’s college fees. The actor was married to actress, and filmmaker Konkona Sen Sharma and they share a son Haroon.

Clarifying one of his past jokes about wanting to earn Rs 25 lakh prize in Bigg Boss, Ranvir revealed, “It is not like that. The statement was made in jest. Obviously, the combination of the trophy and prize money cannot be broken. At least I am clear when I say that I want myself to win first.”

Recalling his journey in Bigg Boss, Ranvir Shorey in an interview with ANI admitted that he shared close bonds with some housemates, but with others there were conflicts. Despite the “tough experience”, he was happy to have “learned a lot, gained experience, and created lasting memories.”

Ranvir excels and makes a lasting impression in the character of the man’s older son Bunty.
2. FatsoRanvir Shorey essayed the character of a loverboy with a pot belly in this 2009 Rajat Kapoor directorial. The comedy-drama also featured Purab Kohli, Gul Panag, and Neil Bhoopalam. The story aims not to stereotype an obese person in playing the role of a romantic hero.

5. SonchiriyaAbhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya is more than a film. It is a social commentary on colour, caste, creed, and certain beliefs held by the people of India. Vakeel Singh, played by Ranvir Shorey, is a rebel with a different philosophy from the other rebels after the gang’s leader is found dead in a police confrontation. His fearless stance and rebellious actions as an upper-caste oppressor stole the show.
6. TitliTitli is perhaps one of Ranvir Shorey’s best performances. The narrative focuses on a family of three brothers and their father who earns money through carjacking. Ranvir, in the character of the ruthless elder brother Vikram, is the chief of his kin, who can go to any length to fulfill his desires. However, underneath his tough, criminally-induced exterior, lies a broken and lonely man with a looming lawsuit by his estranged wife.
7. Moh Maya MoneyThis heist film stars Ranvir Shorey and Neha Dhupia in the lead. Ranvir features as Aman, a shady real estate dealer who dreams of shedding his middle-class persona through unlawful activities. His money-minded behaviour forces him to do the unthinkable when given a murkiest deal.
8. Traffic SignalThe lives of people living close to a traffic signal in Mumbai were portrayed in this social drama. The film showed how they overcame hardships to earn their daily bread. Ranvir Shorey was recently seen in director Srijit Mukherji’s web series Shekhar Home. Headlined by Kay Kay Menon, the JioCinema Premium mini-series is touted to be the Indian adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, the iconic fictional detective created by novelist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

While Kay Kay Menon portray the titular character of Holmes, Ranvir fill the shoes of Doctor John Watson, a close and witty assistant-cum-friend of Sherlock. Shekhar Home premiered on August 14. It also stars Madhvendra Jha, Usha Uthup, Rasika Dugal, and Kaushik Sen.
