Alia Bhatt Says She Wanted To 'Prove Herself', Convinced Udta Punjab Director To Cast Her: 'He Wasn't Sure'
Alia Bhatt’s portrayal of a migrant labourer in the film is considered one of the most lauded performances of her career.

Alia Bhatt is one such actress who has created a special place in the hearts of fans through her powerful acting skills. She has proved herself in films like Highway but Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab changed the game for her. Alia was seen in a role that was completely different from what she had been doing. In an old video clip, the Jigra actress revealed that she had to convince Udta Punjab’s director as he was not sure about her.

Reddit has shared the clip in which she is seen talking in length about how she got the role. “Shahid and I were shooting for ‘Shaandaar’ at the time. He told me about the script and that it is such a good script and he wants me to read it. Maybe he wanted my advice on it or maybe he was going to suggest me for this part, I don’t know. Shahid and I had become very good friends and he had asked me to just read the script. I read the script and I was like ‘Wow, what a part’. I was like, ‘listen I want to do this part’. He was like, ‘Okay, I also think it will be quite cool and you should meet Chaubey’. So then I met Chaubey and I had to convince him that I will do it.”

Speaking further on this, Alia said, “He was like I am still realigning because he had a certain image of me in his mind where she is this young girl, heroine because I had done those kinds of films, although I had done a film like ‘Highway’. For Chaubey to reimagine me as that character was a big thing. He had to sleep on it. So we did a look test or something like that and he was still not sure. I said I will work very hard and I will really prove myself but I really want to play this part. I wanted to prove to that I can be really opposite also. Like I really wanted to prove myself and the world that listen I am a chameleon. I can get into any shape and size. I just wanted to prove it somehow. So, we did a look test and everything. I think something may be clicked in him that dedication or may be the fact that I was charged and excited to do it. And I worked bloody hard on it. Like I really worked hard.”

Alia Bhatt’s portrayal of a migrant labourer battling drug addiction is considered one of the most lauded performances of her career.

Currently, Alia Bhatt is seen in Jigra with Vedang Raina. The film revolves around brother and sister story. The film was released on October 11 and clashed with Rajkummar Rao’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.
