MX Player’s original Hey Prabhu is all set to return with its second season. While Prabhu’s (Rajat Barmecha) social media family may think he has it all sorted, they are unaware of the turmoil he is facing in his professional and personal life. But Rajat Barmecha says, unlike Prabhu, he has a very transparent online presence. Yet, somewhere down the line, he does relate to his character.
“We all can see a little bit of similarity in Tarun Prabhu’s character because of the generation we all are in. We see things happening on social media, things affecting us, so I think some way you can relate to those problems. But I am not entirely like him because I have a different set of relationships,” said the actor.
Barmecha has something very important to say to the ones stuck at crossroads like his character. He says everything is not about social media and people should be more present in their real lives as they are on social media.
After shooting to fame for his spectacular performance in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan, Barmecha feels that his ‘udaan’ both as an actor and a person has been great since then.
He said, “When Udaan released, I was 21. At that point in Bollywood, there were not too many things happening for young people. Now people experiment with actors, age and other things. Earlier people were not open to investing in actors who were young and there were not too many things written for young actors. I think that didn’t work for me back then, but now good things are happening and that’s a positive change.”
Barmecha also thinks the OTT platforms have helped filmmakers, actors and producers to experiment and push their boundaries. “It has been six years since I did my first web series and it’s been great because I feel it’s given me a lot of stuff I wanted to experiment with, interesting roles that I could work on, and a lot of financial stability. Because of web series, I am in a space where I don’t do stuff for money, I do stuff because I want to.”
Hey Prabhu season 2 will see an ensemble cast of Parul Gulati, Achint Kaur, Jasmeet Singh Bhatia, Rituraj Singh, Neha Panda, Grusha Kapoor, Dev Dutt and Ashish Bhatia. When asked about his experience of working with such prominent names in the industry, he said it’s always good to have good actors around as being an artist is all about learning from the people and experiences around one. “There are people like Rituraj, who are brilliant actors, so you get to see them, learn and give your best. And I think age is not a bar as people learn from each other. And that’s what acting is all about”.
Hey Prabhu will be streaming on MX player from March 26.
