It’s raining political dramas in Bollywood. Before biopics on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray could release, another one has been announced. This time, it will be based on the life of the present Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
The makers of the film took to social media on Monday to release the film’s first poster in eight languages, including Hindi and English. Starring Vivek Oberoi as Modi, the film may come handy in reviving Oberoi's career in Bollywood.
The poster has Oberoi’s Modi standing in front of the Indian tricolour with a massive crowd carrying the national flag as the sun rises in the background. At the top is written, “Deshbhakti Hi Meri Shakti Hai (Patriotism is my power).”
जय हिन्द. జై హింద్. ஜெய் ஹிந்த். Jai Hind ???????????? We humbly ask for your prayers and blessings on this incredible journey. #AkhandBharat #PMNarendraModi pic.twitter.com/t0lQVka7mJ— Vivek Anand Oberoi (@vivekoberoi) January 7, 2019
Titled PM Narendra Modi, the film will be directed by Omung Kumar, who has earlier directed biopics like Sarbjit and Mary Kom. Slated to go on floors later this month, PM Narendra Modi has been in the works for three years.
The film poster was unveiled by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at South Mumbai’s Garware Club House. The film is being produced by Vivek Oberoi’s father Suresh Oberoi and Sandip Ssingh.
“Sandip Ssingh and Vivek came up with the idea of roping in the CM for the unveiling. When the makers approached him, he readily agreed," a source from the production earlier said.
"The team acquired the necessary permissions to go forth with the film only a few weeks ago. Vivek has been working on his distinct looks and will be part of extensive workshops. A big chunk of the film will be shot in Gujarat, apart from other states”, the source added.
With the makers yet to announce PM Narendra Modi’s release date, it will be interesting to see if they will be able to shape public opinion and release it in time with the general elections this year.
