As the red carpet rolled out for the makers and actors of these home-grown web series which have shown great ingenuity, quality and brilliance this year, and changed the landscape of OTT platforms, the ceremony was a celebration of artiste and their art at JW Marriott, Sahar on Monday.

iREEL Awards is one of those few endeavours that was started last year with the intention to salute the new media and the gamut of its original entertainment content. So far, the awards show has received an overwhelming response not only from the members of the television industry but also from Bollywood's reputed actors.

The evening began with an enticing panel discussion on, “Should OTT platforms be under the standard government censorship?” with Ravi Dubey, Surveen Chawla, Sumukhi Suresh and Sumeet Vyas, moderated by film critic Rajeev Masand.

The first place where censorship should exist are news channels, said Surveen during the panel discussion. She adds, “I am completely against censorship in digital platforms, especially in fiction format. Self censorship is a big no. Let the parents decide what their child should see."

Ravi pointed at the large variety of content on the OTT platforms. He said, “There is a whole lot of content on internet, which is detrimental and not just OTT platforms. My point being, before debate extends to OTT platforms, we must take a look at detrimental content that is already on the internet and is available for kids.”

Agreeing to the actor Sumeet said he is very conservative adding, "But I don’t understand how can you be selective in choosing what is harmful or not. You will have to censor life outside or don’t be so selective thinking OTT content as a soft target.” To this Sumukhi added, “As content creators we need to be responsible. We are going to make mistakes, and slip up, but we will rise."

After the panel discussion, hosts Cyrus Broacha and Pooja invited the presenters to give away the awards to the winners.
