Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and featuring Sharvari, Mona Singh, Abhay Verma and Sathyaraj, the film is based on Marathi folklore. Here’s where and when you can watch it. On Sunday, Disney+ Hotstar announced that Munjya is now streaming. Their Instagram post featured a motion poster with Sharvari and Abhay Verma. Sharvari plays Bella/Munni in the film.
The caption read, “Aapne Munjya ko yaad kiya, aur voh apni Munni ko dhoondne dauda chala aa gaya (You thought of Munjya, who is here to search for his Munni)… Saari munnis (all Munnis), please be aware!! Watch Munjya now streaming!”
Munjya is a horror-comedy which is based in Pune and the Konkan region. Besides Sharvari and Abhay, the film also stars Mona Singh in a key role. It follows the story of the eponymous mythical creature who wreaks havoc in the life of Bittu, played by Abhay.
The film received majorly positive reviews. News18 Showsha gave Munjya a 3-star rating. “Munjya beautifully draws inspiration by blending elements of horror and cultural depth to weave a story that is both enthralling and deeply rooted in Indian mythology. The movie delivers a good cinematic experience owing to its good writing and the gripping folklore. It is a clean entertainer. It has family-friendly written all over it and has all the elements of a typical commercial horror comedy. This is a must-watch for anyone interested in folklore and horror storytelling,” an excerpt from our review read.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Munjya — starring Abhay Verma, Sharvari Wagh and others— crossed the Rs 100 crore nett mark in India by its 6th week. The film began with earnings of around Rs 4 crore, making its achievement of Rs 100 crore a big feat. Despite competition from releases like Chandu Champion, Kalki 2898 AD, Sarfira, and Hindustani 2, Munjya maintained steady collections at the box office.
