The Hindi adaptation of the popular Israeli crime drama Magpie, titled Kan Khajura, is set to stream on SonyLiv soon. The web series, backed by Yes Studios, which previously produced Indian adaptations of Kvodo (Your Honor) and Fauda (Tanaav), features an ensemble cast, including Mohit Raina, Roshan Mathew, Sarah Jane Dias, Mahesh Shetty, Ninad Kamat, Trinetra Haldar, Heeba Shah, and Usha Nadkarni in pivotal roles. The series promises a compelling narrative and emotional resonance.
In a recent media interaction, lead actor Mohit Raina expressed his excitement about being part of a thriller, emphasizing the challenges and thrill it brings for an actor. Speaking about his character, Raina mentioned that it has many shades, and portraying it is a significant responsibility.
He experimented with different looks to completely immerse himself in the character, resulting in a well-crafted role. Raina added, “I am delighted to be a part of this story, with a filmmaker like Chandan at the helm, a stellar cast, and talented writing, creative, and production teams. This is a collective effort to honour the show and ensure an unforgettable journey for our viewers.”
Directed by Chandan Arora and produced by Ajay Rai, the thriller series is expected to explore themes like betrayal, redemption, complicated familial ties, and the resilience of the human spirit, much like the original Magpie.
The original Israeli series, created by Adam Bizanski, Omri Shenhar, and Dana Eden, won the Best Screenplay award at the Berlin TV Series Festival in 2019 and received nominations for Best International Series and Best Performance at the same event. It revolves around a murderer released after 17 years under the condition that he cooperates with the police as an informant.
Mohit Raina, last seen in the Hindi-language action thriller television series The Freelancer, created and written by Neeraj Pandey and directed by Bhav Dhulia, shared the screen with Anupam Kher and Kashmira Pardeshi. The show premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on September 1, 2023.
