Mohanlal fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating the release of the upcoming Malayalam action-drama Malaikottai Vaaliban, set to hit theatres on January 25. This film marks the first collaboration between the legendary actor and director Lijo Jose Pellissery, creating heightened expectations among viewers.
In an unprecedented move, RFT Films, recognised as the largest overseas distributor of Malayalam cinema, is taking the lead in releasing Malaikottai Vaaliban in Europe and the UK. This ambitious endeavour represents the most extensive overseas release in the history of Malayalam cinema, with plans for the film to screen in approximately 35 European countries. This milestone marks the first time a Malayalam film has received approval for screening in such a vast number of European countries.
The crew behind Malaikottai Vaaliban has declared that the film, along with RFT Films, will set a new record for the highest screen count for a Malayalam film outside India. With reports indicating a release in 175 theatres across the UK, the film is breaking new ground in terms of overseas exposure. Additionally, RFT Films has introduced pre-booking facilities for a Malayalam film in the UK, allowing fans to secure their seats two weeks in advance. To celebrate the release, various events, including a ‘Valiban Festival,’ have been organized in the UK, featuring a Mohanlal Fan Meet and Club Night.
The film’s extensive shooting took place primarily in Rajasthan, followed by locations in Chennai and Pondicherry. Penned by PS Rafeeque, the screenplay brings together the dynamic duo of director Lijo Jose Pellissery and cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan, known for their collaboration on the critically acclaimed Churuli. The first-look poster unveiled earlier has already generated considerable excitement among avid moviegoers.
Mohanlal’s last outing was in the Malayalam courtroom drama Neru, directed by Jeethu Joseph. Co-written by Santhi Mayadevi, the film features Mohanlal in the role of advocate Vijayamohan. Alongside an ensemble cast including Priyamani, Anaswara Rajan, and others, Neru emerged as a commercial success, grossing over Rs 55 crore worldwide and securing its position as the third-highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year.
As the release date approaches, Malaikottai Vaaliban has created a significant buzz, and fans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to witness this landmark collaboration between Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery.
