After Hollywood stars Meryl Streep and Martin Short appeared more than just friendly at the Golden Globes 2024, the rumours of the two dating started doing the rounds. Martin Short has finally addressed the speculations. On Sunday, the actor appeared on Club Random with Bill Maher podcast, where he denied being romantically involved with his Only Murders In The Building co-star. When the podcast host joked about he and Meryl Streep being a “power couple", Martin Short said, “We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends." Both Meryl Streep and Martin Short appeared at the prestigious award show after they were nominated for their performances in the Hulu series.
Even after Martin Short denied all the dating rumours, Bill Maher said that they should date “because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple." As per a report in Vanity Fair, Bill Maher, while proving his point, gave examples of Hollywood’s It couples and said, “It worked for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, it worked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie."
The rumour mill went into an overdrive with suggestions that the two are dating after a People Magazine report confirmed in October that Meryl Streep and her husband Don Gummer, had been separated. While it was only last year that the news of their separation came into the limelight, the two have been separated for more than 6 years. After dating for six months, the actress tied the knot with Don Gummer in 1978.
Meryl Streep and Don Gummer, who share four children together, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in September last year.
The People Magazine quoted a representative for Meryl Streep as saying, “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart."
The report claimed that the two haven’t been spotted together publicly since the Oscars 2018. However, Meryl Streep continued to wear her wedding band just days before the split was confirmed.
Meanwhile, Martin Short hasn’t been linked to anyone romantically after his wife, Nancy Dolman, passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010. The two tied the knot in 1980 and share three children.
