CHENNAI: A 16-year-old girl, who allegedly jumped from the second floor of her school building at Vijayanagar in Velachery on Friday following a tiff with her classmates, succumbed to injuries on Sunday night. According to sources, P Nithyakumari, a student of class XI at Shri A Ganesan Matriculation Higher Secondary School on Velachery Main Road, was upset that two of her classmates had stopped talking to her. On Friday afternoon, she jumped from the second floor, where her class was located, and sustained severe head injuries. The school authorities rushed her to a private hospital.Nithyakumari developed severe clots in the brain and died at 9.50 pm on Sunday, Inspector Siranjeevi, the investigation officer, said adding that the body was sent to the government hospital in Royapettah for autopsy.The girl’s father, Prem Kumar, a resident of MGR Nagar in Velachery, lodged a complaint and a case was registered under Section 174 CrPC.“Our probe showed that the victim took the extreme step because her friends stopped talking to her. There is no question of her being pushed because the wall is chest high,” Siranjeevi added.
