The Malayalam web series, Manorathangal was recently released on Independence Day, ie August 15 on the OTT platform. It is based on the nine stories by renowned Malayalam writer MT Vasudevan Nair. Recently, the web series achieved a milestone by accumulating over 100 million streaming minutes in 10 days.
Manorathangal headlined by Mohanlal, Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil and others was released on Zee5 on August 15. The day also marked the birthday of the Malayalam writer MT Vasudevan Nair. Ever since its release, the web series has garnered attention and appreciation from audiences worldwide. Within 10 days of premiering on the OTT, the film has already generated 100 million streaming minutes and was reportedly watched in and has set a milestone in the Malayalam film industry. Manorathangal is available in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi languages.
The web series is set in Kerala and delves into the complex nature of humans. It showcases the contradictions of human behaviour, their empathetic nature and primal instincts. The web series is presented by the superstar Kamal Haasan. The nine-stories anthology is interconnected and begins with Olavum Theeravum, directed by Priyadarshan and stars Mohanlal in the lead. The story is followed by Ranjith’s Kadugannawa Oru Yathrakkurippu, headlined by Mammootty. A few other stories include another Priyadarshan directorial, Shilalikhitham featuring Biju Menon, Shanthi Krishna and Joy Mathew; Shyama Prasad’s Kazhcha headlined by Parvathy Thiruvoth and Harish Uthaman and Mahesh Narayanan’s story titled Sherlock with Fahadh Faasil and Nadiya Moidu.
Apart from this, MT Vasudevan Nair’s daughter, Aswathy Nair was a part of the filmmaking process. She directed Vilpana, featuring Madhu and Asif Ali.
There are other stories like Jayaraj Nair’s Swargam Thurakkunna Samayam featuring Kailash, Indrans, Nedumudi Venu, Ranji Panicker and Surabhi Lakshmi; Santhosh Sivan’s Abhayam Thedu Veendum with Siddique, Ishith Yamini and Naseer and Indrajith and Aparna Balamurali in Ratheesh Ampat’s Kadalkattu.
Manorathangal was first announced in 2021 but got delayed due to the pandemic. It made the headlines once again after the announcement but then the hype faded away. The makers made sure to turn all attention to the project.
