Malayalam actor Bala, also known as Balakumar, has been arrested by the Kadavanthra police in Ernakulam, Kerala, following a complaint from his ex-wife, singer Amrutha Suresh. According to a report by Manorama, he faces charges of outraging a woman’s modesty, along with additional allegations under juvenile justice laws.
A report from News9 states that Bala’s driver, who worked for him for three years, has given evidence that he saw Bala assault Amrutha multiple times, including in front of their 12-year-old daughter, Avantika, and other family members. The driver also shared a post on Facebook explaining why he chose to speak out. “Now, I don’t want to hide anything since their relationship is over. Bala had ill-treated her in a brutal manner and I was witness to it. She had scars on her body for which she had been to treatment. I was witness to all these,” he wrote, as per the report.
Bala said Amrutha was keeping him from seeing their daughter. Avantika then shared a video, claiming that Bala had been rude to her and her mother. Bala replied in another video, stating that if Avantika doesn’t want to see him, he doesn’t want to be involved with her anymore.
According to Manorama, Amrutha, in her complaint, accused Bala of insulting her with social media posts and claimed his videos had emotionally affected their daughter. She stated that Bala breached their divorce agreement, which forbids personal insults. “He is constantly disturbing me and my 12-year-old daughter, even giving paid online interviews about us,” she added.
Bala is a popular actor in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. He started his career in Telugu films and later moved to Tamil cinema. He gained fame for his supporting roles in several Malayalam films and made his directorial debut in 2012. Bala has starred in many successful films and is known for his work in movies like Puthiya Mukham, Ennu Ninte Moideen, Pulimurugan, and Lucifer. Bala and Amrutha Suresh got married in 2010.
