Kit Harington Says Game of Thrones Spinoff On Jon Snow Is ‘Off The Table’
Kit Harington revealed that the possibility of a Jon Snow-centered spin-off has been ruled out due to the lack of a suitable storyline.

The Game of Thrones may have wrapped up in May 2019, after 73 episodes spanning eight seasons, but its franchise is growing in all directions. Its prequel series, House of Dragons, got much success, which boosted the way for two more prequels centred around characters like The Hedge Knight and Targaryen Dynasty creator Aegon The Conqueror. For quite some time, fans have been asking for a Game of Thrones spin-off or sequel series that would focus on Jon Snow aka Aegon Targaryen. Jon Snow’s character death in the season 5 finale is deemed controversial in the Game of Thrones fandom, with many demanding a return of the popular character.

In 2022, rumours surfaced that actor Kit Harington might reprise his role in a Jon Snow-centric series, but now the actor has quelled these speculations. Recently, Harington spoke to ScreenRant and said that fans shouldn’t be waiting for a Jon Snow series anytime soon. He said that the plan is off the table as the makers are unable to find a suitable storyline to build the character’s story. Harington said, “Currently, it (the series) is off the table because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”

Many believe that it is hard to extend the Game of Thrones Series as a sequel beyond the eight seasons, partly because the source material for the show, based on fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, is sparse and partly because it might be logistically difficult to bring back the old cast members, either as surviving characters or the “dead” characters for flashback scenes. All and all, it appears that Jon Snow fans might not see their favourite character back on screen.

However, not all hope is lost. Last year, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss told The Hollywood Reporter they will consider making a Jon Snow-centric series many years later as they think it is one of those characters that become more interesting as time goes by. Dan Weiss said, “Maybe when we’re 80 and Kit’s (Kit Harington) approaching retirement, he can throw that cloak on again with real gray in his beard.”
