Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is a Fan of Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi: 'It Felt Like a Martin Scorsese Film'
Joseph Gordon-Levitt was seen attending the IFP Festival in Mumbai. This is his first trip to India.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt confessed he’s a fan of Gangubai Kathiawadi. The actor, who was the first guest of the 14th season of IFP Fest taking place in Mumbai, revealed he recently watched the Alia Bhatt film and was impressed with it. He also said that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film felt like a Martin Scorsese film. The actor was in conversation with Rajkummar Rao.

“I was just watching that movie and just found it so beautiful and so unique. And it’s completely different from anything I’ve seen. Because it’s this very heavy and distinguished drama that looks like a Scorsese movie at times. It’s gorgeous,” he said.

Calling it a sincere film, Joseph confessed he found himself enamoured by the film. “It made me want to learn more and more about Indian cinema. It’s honestly a part of why I wanted to come here. I love what I’m feeling from the culture here and there’s genuine love for movies and artistry. I wanna come here and make a movie here,” Joseph said.

Besides praising the Indian cinema, Joseph also matched steps with Rajkummar Rao. He was seen learning the hookstep of Aai Nahi, from his film Stree 2.

For the unversed, this is Joseph’s first trip to India. Speaking about bringing the Hollywood actor to India, IFP founder Ritam Bhatnagar told News18 Showsha, “We reached out to Joseph last year as well. We were very bullish about it because Gaurav (Dave, Festival Producer) is a huge fan of Joseph. He believes that Joseph is so underrated and he has done such brilliant, variety of things as a child, teenage and an evolved actor. Joseph is building a parallel community of creative people, which is called Hit Record. While we reached out to him, we informed him that what he is doing with Hit Record is exactly that IFP is trying to build. We are building one giant community of people. Though festival is an enabler, round the year we work closely with the community. We have almost 9 lakh people from 45 countries in the community.”

Ritam and Gaurav had been in touch with Joseph for a month now. They reached out to him via email. They emailed him at 9:30 PM one September night and within 15 minutes he agreed to attend the event. At 2 AM, Joseph requested the team to get on a call to discuss his participation and convinced him to visit India.
