In Pics: Sex Education Star Connor Swindells Marries Peaky Blinders Actress Amber Anderson

Who needs a traditional officiant when your TV dad can do the honours? That’s exactly what Sex Education star Connor Swindells decided when he exchanged vows with actress Amber Anderson. The couple mentioned that Swindells’ on-screen father, British actor Alistair Petrie, took on the role of officiating the ceremony during a recent interview.

In pictures shared by the magazine Vogue on Instagram, Petrie stands proudly behind Swindells, with both of them glowing with happiness. In another shot, the ever-stern headmaster Groff himself appears at the altar in a kilt, while Swindells strikes a celebratory fist pump.

In Sex Education, Swindells plays Adam Groff, the troubled son of Moordale Secondary’s strict headmaster, Michael Groff (played by Petrie).

In the series, their relationship is strained as Adam grapples with his identity and Michael clings to outdated school policies. However, after Michael is fired and separated from Adam’s mother, Maureen (Samantha Spiro), the two begin to rebuild their bond.

Swindells and Anderson reportedly first met while working on Autumn de Wilde’s 2020 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. The director was even present at their wedding and took some photos featured in the report by Vogue.

“We also asked Autumn, director of Emma, to do a speech during the drinks reception,” Anderson told the magazine. “It meant so much to us to have her speak – we met because of the movie she made, and over the years she has become a best friend, spiritual guardian, advisor, and adopted auntie. She means the world to us,” she added.

In Emma, Swindells plays Robert Martin, the suitor who ultimately marries Emma’s (Anya Taylor-Joy) companion Harriet (Mia Goth). Anderson portrayed Jane Fairfax, who rivals Emma for the attention of Frank Churchill (Callum Turner).

Since then, Anderson has appeared in The Souvenir Part II by Joanna Hogg and portrayed Diana Mitford in the sixth season of Peaky Blinders. Swindells, meanwhile, appeared as intern Aaron Dinkins in Barbie. After Sex Education concluded in 2023, he took a role in the historical drama William Tell, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
