New Delhi: Actress Kalki Koechlin, who has been honoured with a Special Jury Award at the 63rd National Film Awards for her impeccable performance in ‘Margarita With A Straw’ believes that just like failures shouldn’t bring you down, successes shouldn’t get on your head.
“I’m happy, I’m thrilled. It’s a big deal. National Award is the biggest award you get as an actor”, said the happy-go-lucky actress.
In an exclusive interaction with News18.com, she expressed her elation over the victory but also made sure to keep her toes on the ground and not let the big win get to her head.
“I’ve always believed that my unconventional roles have worked for me. I think it’s like just like people can’t get you down when you have a failure or a flop at the box office, same way you can’t let one award make you think you’re a great queen. ”
While elaborating on the hits and misses at the box office, she said, “It’s like a part and parcel of the work we do. I’ve worked hard and I have to continue to work hard if I have to keep getting more awards.”
The ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ actress, who calls herself ‘an unusual breed’ feels that people have always questioned her ‘desiness’ because she’s ‘white’. “I’m an unusual breed. Because I’m white. You don’t see that many French origin-Tamil girls and even if you do none of them are really famous. So I think it’s normal for people to question. But every once in a while I get tired of it and I’m like I’m from here guys (laughs and speaks something in Tamil), accept it. So when you get a National Award, it feels like at least the President of India is giving me a nod for my work. It just feels great!”
The actress will next be seen in Anu Menon’s comedy-drama directorial ‘Waiting’ co-starring Naseer Udeen Shah, Rajat Kapoor. The story of the film delves into the themes of coping with gried and at the same time discovering hope.
