Ever since the release of its trailer, Hamare Baarah has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The film has been accused by many of spreading propaganda. Amid all this, the film’s actor Manoj Joshi has now said that the Annu Kapoor starrer is not made to target any religion.
Joshi was recently speaking to the news agency ANI when he said, “I am an artist, I have done this film, but some people have opposed it. This movie was not made to target any religion. Today, there are discussions about respecting the women of our country. In any society, there should be no disrespect to women. A woman is not an object or a thing; she should be respected, as it has been happening in India.”
The actor further urged everyone to watch this film and added, “Secondly, the film talks about various topics such as education, upbringing, employment, women’s respect and empowerment, and population. So, everyone should watch this film with their families.”
What Is The Controversy Around Hamare Baarah?
Hamare Baarah revolves around the theme of overpopulation and has been facing a major backlash from viewers. Several people have alleged that there is a glimpse of uncouth crude and communal propaganda in the film’s trailer. Others argued that Hamare Baarah’s trailer is disturbing and can “poison” the minds of an entire generation. Amidst the raging controversy, the film’s trailer was abruptly pulled down from online platforms, after releasing on May 30.
Previously, Annu Kapoor also slammed those criticising his film. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, the actor shared that everyone is quick to make judgments on the film even before watching it. He urged people to watch the film first and then make an opinion about it.
“At a personal and an impersonal level, I’m an atheist. My director and producers thought that I was the right person who would be able to implement their vision on celluloid. So, I tried my best to justify my character. I’m not bothered about the rest. Films are a make-believe world where I’m chosen as an artist and my job is to justify my art,” he said.
“People talk about propaganda all the time. I’m not bothered about it. I would urge people to watch the film first and then decide what our film stands for. They haven’t watched it, so I don’t understand why they’re judging it,” the actor added.
Hamare Baarah is now in theatres.
