Did Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi Ever Work Together?

DMK leader M Karunanidhi who is Jayalalithaa's biggest opponent, was a well-known writer in Tamil Cinema before turning to politics. So the question that keeps rising is have the arch political rivals ever worked together in a film? Well, two did cross path in one film.

Jayalalithaa made her debut in Tamil with the film Vennira Aadai in 1965. Karunanidhi was a successful and much sought after script writer in the industry, but not around the time Jayalalithaa was a rising star. By this time he was already engaged full time in politics, and was not very active in films.

However, in 1966, Tamil actor S.Rajendran, directed a film named Mani Makudam where Jayalalithaa played the second female lead. M.Karunanidhi happened to be the writer of the film as stated in the official IMDb page of the film.

So yes, the political nemesis did work together in a film where Jayalalithaa played a character of a story written and created by M. Karunanidhi.
