In 2018, during the promotions of the film Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, Sunny Deol hinted towards a possible Dharmendra biopic.

Bollywood legend Dharmendra, now at the age of 88, stands as a testament to enduring charisma and unwavering passion within the film industry. His recent role in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which included an on-screen liplock with co-star Shabana Azmi, stirred significant interest, showcasing his timeless appeal. Dharmendra’s journey in Bollywood traces back to the 1960 film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, marking his debut after clinching Filmfare magazine’s prestigious ‘New Talent’ award. His initial steps in the industry were met with adversity when the promised film upon his arrival in Mumbai from Punjab got shelved, delaying his entry into the limelight until two years later with the aforementioned film.

In 2018, during the promotional rounds for Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, Dharmendra’s elder son Sunny Deol hinted at the possibility of a biopic depicting his illustrious father’s life. However, the veteran actor clarified that no such project is currently in development. Delving into potential actors suitable to portray him on-screen, Dharmendra surprised many by excluding his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, as well as grandson Karan Deol from the list. Instead, he expressed a strong inclination towards Bollywood megastar Salman Khan, citing similarities in habits and personal traits. Their previous collaboration in Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya added weight to his choice. Despite acknowledging the abundance of biographies among his contemporaries, Dharmendra humorously admitted to not having penned his autobiography yet, teasing about a potential future travelogue.

Looking ahead, Dharmendra is gearing up for his forthcoming projects, including Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Ikkis, both slated for release later this year. As he continues to impress audiences with his timeless charm and versatility, Dharmendra remains an enduring icon in Indian cinema, showing resilience and passion in his pursuit of artistic excellence. With a career spanning over six decades, his contributions to the industry stand as a mirror to his enduring legacy, inspiring generations of actors and fans alike.
