In a heartwarming recollection, renowned mehendi artist Veena Nagda shared fond memories from Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh’s lavish wedding in Italy, which took place in 2018. The couple, who are now eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child, had a spectacular wedding that left a lasting impression on all those involved.
Veena recalled during a chat with Bollywood Now, how Deepika had made a promise during the filming of ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ to hire her for her wedding, a promise she honoured when the time came. The artist didn’t even realize she would be part of the high-profile wedding until she found herself at the visa office, where she saw a letter from Ranveer Singh. The celebrity couple went above and beyond, booking Veena for five days instead of just the single day required for the mehendi ceremony, ensuring she enjoyed her time in Italy with plenty of opportunities to sightsee, “Deepika had promised me during Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani that she would hire me for her wedding mehendi and she fulfilled that promise,” she shared.
Despite the chilly weather in Lake Como, Deepika’s love for mehendi saw her patiently sitting through the intricate application, determined to achieve the rich, dark colour traditional for such a special occasion. Veena reminisced about how Deepika only joined the dance floor after the mehendi had dried sufficiently, careful not to smudge the delicate designs. She shared, “When I did Deepika’s mehendi, it was so cold, but she got it all done on her hands an feet. She did everything to get the dark colour of the mehendi. Deepika only went to dance after her mehendi was a little dry because she didn’t want to spoil it.”
Ranveer Singh, known for his exuberant personality, added his own flair to the event. Initially, he planned to have a tiger, symbolising his upcoming film ‘Simmba’, incorporated into his mehendi. However, in a touching gesture, he ultimately opted for his beloved wife’s initials, choosing to carry her name with him on their wedding day, “First, Ranveer said that I will get a tiger in my mehendi because Simmba was going to come. Then he changed his mind and said ‘I want DP’s name in my mehendi’,” she added.
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s wedding was a breathtaking celebration of love, elegance, and tradition, set against the picturesque backdrop of Lake Como, Italy. The couple, both Bollywood icons, tied the knot in November 2018, in a series of intimate yet grand ceremonies that beautifully blended their respective cultures.
The wedding was a private affair, attended by close family and friends, with an aura of exclusivity and warmth. It began with a traditional Konkani ceremony, honouring Deepika’s South Indian heritage, followed by a vibrant Sindhi ceremony to celebrate Ranveer’s roots. Each ritual was steeped in tradition, with the couple donning exquisitely designed outfits by renowned designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Deepika’s bridal looks were a stunning combination of opulence and grace, while Ranveer’s attire reflected his distinctive, flamboyant style.
The events took place at Villa del Balbianello, a historic villa offering stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The location itself added an air of timeless romance to the proceedings. The decor was understated yet luxurious, with a focus on natural beauty, featuring lush floral arrangements and elegant details that enhanced the villa’s old-world charm.
