Aruna Irani shared a surprising anecdote about the time she worked with Amitabh Bachchan. The actress worked with Big B in a couple of films. However, their most memorable film together was Bombay To Goa. Released in 1972, Aruna was paired opposite Amitabh in the film. In a new interview, Aruna revealed that Amitabh was an ‘aloof’ man when she worked with him. She said she never noticed him get friendly with anyone.
“Amit ji used to stay aloof from the very beginning. He used to just spend time in how own room or his vanity van. I have never seen him get friendly with anyone,” Aruna Irani told Zoom TV in a recent interview. Besides speaking about Amitabh, Aruna also said that Rajesh Khanna was ‘very good’ to her.
“Rajesh Khanna was a good actor. He was very good to me. People used to get scared of him a lot. But I did not. He used to call me ‘ben’. He used to be like ‘aye ben, chalo khana khaane. Time hogaya,’” she said.
Amitabh Bachchan made his acting debut in 1969 with Saat Hindustani. The actor went on to play several iconic roles in the initial years of his career. These include Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee aka Babu Moshai in Rajesh Khanna-headlined Anand, Inspector Vijay Khanna in Zanjeer, Vikram (Vicky) Maharaj in Namak Haraam, Subir Kumar in Abhimaan, Vijay Varma in Deewar and Jai in Sholay to cement his position as one of the biggest superstars in the history of Indian cinema.
Although Aruna confessed he was reserved when they worked together, she had once told Rediff.com that Amitabh doesn’t have an attitude issue. “He doesn’t have any attitude (problem). If I were in his place the fame would have gone to my head. He has lived up to his potential; more than lived up to it. I doubt Amitji can ever be replaced,” she said.
