Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next highly anticipated project, Love & War, featuring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, has reportedly faced delays due to heavy Mumbai rains. Bhansali, known for his magnum opuses like Devdas, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat, is now shifting focus to this new venture, but the downpours have caused some setbacks.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the shooting for Love & War has been pushed back by nearly two months. The crew was initially set to begin filming in September 2024, but severe rain in Mumbai damaged the film’s set, causing major construction delays. Now, the movie is expected to go on floors at the end of November or early December.
A source close to the production explained that once the construction of the set began, the team had to halt work after the rains damaged it earlier this month. Despite these setbacks, Bhansali has taken this extra time to refine the script and focus on the film’s music. The filmmaker is also planning additional workshops with the lead stars, Alia, Ranbir, and Vicky, to further prepare for their roles.
In an earlier report in Pinkvilla, it was revealed that Bhansali is self-financing Love & War, similar to the models used by big studios like YRF and Red Chillies Entertainment. Before the film even started shooting, Bhansali secured a post-theatrical deal with Netflix and a major music deal with Saregama, ensuring a robust financial foundation for the project.
For Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, Love & War marks their second collaboration with Bhansali. Alia starred in his 2022 hit Gangubai Kathiawadi, while Ranbir made his Bollywood debut in Bhansali’s Saawariya back in 2007. However, this will be Vicky Kaushal’s first collaboration with the legendary filmmaker.
Love & War is now scheduled to release on March 20, 2026, despite the rainy setback, promising another visual and emotional spectacle that Bhansali is known for.
