On day 4 of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018, designer duo Saaksha & Kinni showcased their collection titled Forza. Taking inspiration from Gujarat, the archetypal bandhani and batik came alive intermingling with dark florals. "This season, we’ve dived right into our own heritage, our mothership that has subliminally informed all our choices and narratives. In our case, it’s the state of Gujarat in India," Saaksha said while speaking to News18.com.
The "contrast-without-conflict" colour story ranged from lilacs, reds, purple, whites, blacks, maroons and mustards in the breezy silhouettes and relaxed fits. "Partly anthropological, partly fashion and partly art, Forza carries the heritage mirror work in the embroideries, so representative of this land. Take this piece of rich history with our signature metal and thread work against darker embroideries, and you can see a nouveau Gujarat emerging," Saaksha explained.
On being asked about the rich heritage of India in terms of textiles, fabrics and fashion, she said it's important not only for the designer but also consumers to buy clothes that have a certain Indian essence to them, noting, "Our country is deep rooted in our prints, textiles and embroideries and it is important for designers to remember and uphold our Indian culture and carry them forward for the next generations to use and love."
Both Saaksha and Kinni also bat for sustainable development and call it the need of the second. "Sustainable and ethical fashion must be at the forefront of every designer's work. It is important we preserve the environment and our planet both for ourselves and the future generations," said Kinni.
