CHENNAI: Friday night’s victory by the yellow brigade at the IPL semifinal has whipped up a frenzy among cricket fans in Chennai, who are overwhelmingly hopeful of Chennai Super Kings lifting the cup once again as they gear up to watch the finals on Sunday.“We made it from an almost impossible situation to the play offs and came this far. We will surely win,” said Mohan, a fan, while another fan cautioned that the Kolkata Knight Riders could not be taken lightly. “Chennai pitch will suit KKR’s slow bowlers as well. Only if we have a plan for Narine, we have a great chance of winning the trophy,” said Gaurav Sundaararaman, employed in Wipro.Though the dark clouds that hung over Chennai on Saturday gave rise to a fear that rains might play spoilsport if the skies opened up during the match, preparations were on to watch the CSK-KKR battle.Pubs and café’s across the city are streaming the finals and many are having private parties. “I am having friends over and we are all going to order some food and drinks and watch the game together,” said Gaurav.Some of them are superstitious. “My friends and I are watching the finals together at the same place we watched last year,” said Abhishek Swaminathan. “We have our lucky spots and we do not move from these spots till the match gets over,” he added.
